  1. I downloaded this app to my iPhone 3G at the track on the morning of a track day. Whenever I started it up it said "acquiring GPS location" or something like that then a box would appear telling me to restart the app so it could use my current location. I'd restart the app and it would just repeat that whole process. It never did get a GPS location or time a lap no matter how long I left it running. In contrast, the iPhone GPS I use for navigation was perfectly capable of getting me to and from the track.

I can't really complain about a free app not working but if it's supposed to work but I need to purchase the GPS booster to make it work it becomes something very distant from a free app.

  2. This happens if Location Services are turned off on the iPhone or if you say "No" when app asks if it can use your current location.

On the iPhone home screen tap on Settings, then tap on General and then on Location Services. Ensure that Location Services are on and that they are also on for CMSLapTimer.

    Thanks,
    Pete

  3. Is there another gps module other than the maxqdata quantum dot or Tom Tom that can be recommended to work with the touch app?

  4. At this time the only GPS module that I can recommend is the Tom Tom, simply because that is the only one I own and have tested. Theoretically, any GPS module that is supported by Apple via "Made for iPod" should work.

Is there a specific module you are interested in?

  5. On my dash, the only secure way to mount the phone is flat with the front pointing to the right or left. Will this affect lateral g and acceleration readings?

  6. Joshua, that orientation will work fine. Ensure the app shows the screen in landscape orientation before you lay it down to the mounting position.

  7. Thanks, I'll try it out at the track next week.

  8. How do you connect the external GPS to the iphone if you're going to use one? Via usb cable? And are there settings that need to be adjusted?
    Thanks

  9. You can only use GPS modules that are compatible with the iPhone/iPod and these all connect via the accessory port at the bottom.

  10. Hi , I can't go thru "acquiring location " .it just loading and that's it. I checked if I have location services on and yes "on" .
    Any help?

  11. Rudolf,

It seems the iPhone is not getting a strong GPS signal. You can confirm this by running the Maps app and noticing how large the blue circle is around your location; it needs to be quite small to have a good GPS lock.

Also, in the Location Services settings, please confirm that in the application list, the lap timer shows "on".

  12. can the lap timer work only with gps signal? w/o location services? because i'm going in foreign countries and that means data = a big telephone bill.

  13. Best soft for my gokart. Replaces alfano or mychron4.
Would it be very hard to add possibility of dividing the track to 3 sectors by touching screen 2 times on 1st lap? Is it possible that after passing fonishline or sector marker the app displayed time difference between current and best/ last lap/ sector

  14. I dont suppose its possible to connect wire around sparkplug cable and get rev counter? Or maybe by analising engine sound to get iphone to count revs from exhaust ... Just wondering
    Or temperature sendor :)

  15. There are rev counters on apple store :engine rpm, and racing tach. There are also a lot of free fft programs on the applestore.I belive that if you implemented rev counter based on fft and. Adirtised your app on ebay as alfano and mychron4 replacement for couple bucks youd increase iphpne sales to all karting drivers

  18. really a wonderful free app! Highly recommended and a few sec. ago very positive rated in the app-store Section! Works nice 'as is' on iphone4 and also in my wifes iPod Touch (here only with GPS Mouse via Jailbroken bluetooth app). This combination caused some very interested views on my 'iPod fitted' Racetrack Ducati 848 ;-)))

  19. I'll be giving it a try on my iPhone 4 at the race track this weekend on my motorcycle (roadracing).

Sunforce, you say it is good enough on the iPhone 4 without external GPS? I have the Magellan external unit but is more difficult to mount so don't know whether it is worth the effort.

  20. I was at Buttonwillow and saw a beta of the next version, i think he was a friend of yours. Really cool app and the next ui looks even better. Gonna us give it a try at Thunderhill in a few weeks. I think I'll still go with the Tom Tom so I get better results. If u need more beta testers, let me know ;)

  21. We've released CM LapTimer Pro to Apple. It should appear in the App Store next week.

There are now several choices for the GPS units. Before you buy one, take a look here: http://stoppani.net/iphone/cmslaptimerplus/index.html

    1. In the Recorder screen, you can edit the data value displays to change them. On iPhone, tap on the Menu and then on Edit. On Android, double tap the item to change.
